How to prepare a Malta
public-service application

A practical checklist for choosing the right official call, checking eligibility and preparing an application you can submit with confidence.

Walk Interview Jobs • Published 12 October 2026 • Based on the official recruitment portal and linked calls. This guide is general preparation information; the specific recruiting authority's instructions take priority.

Start with a vacancy, not only a CV form

The Malta recruitment portal provides vacancy discovery and application tools. Opening a CV creation page does not establish that you have applied to a particular job. Begin in official Vacancy Search, choose the exact post and follow its application route. Keep the title, ministry, call reference and closing deadline in one place. This prevents a common mistake: preparing good documents for the wrong recruitment round.

Our Malta jobs directory makes the checked calls easier to compare. A title can appear several times for different departments, grades or circulars. Treat each reference as a separate application opportunity. Check the official vacancy again immediately before submitting, because calls and instructions can change after a directory was compiled.

1. Check who the call is for

Read the call-type label before spending time on your CV. “Public Service Employees” and “Public Service and Sector Employees” calls have a restricted applicant pool. “General Public” calls have a wider pool, but still contain specific conditions. Your current location, willingness to relocate or possession of a CV does not by itself prove eligibility.

Compare the formal criteria with evidence you can provide. Look for nationality or eligible residence conditions, language requirements, qualifications, recognition statements, professional registration and any required experience. Write a short note against each requirement: “met,” “need evidence” or “ask the authority.” If an essential condition is unclear, contact the recruiting authority through the official channel identified in the call.

For example, the Accountant I call published on 2 October 2026 includes Maltese and English communication and specified accountancy qualification routes. That is more specific than the label “General Public.” Read the complete call rather than assuming all general-public posts have the same conditions. Do not infer sponsorship or overseas eligibility from a directory listing.

2. Read the call and its duties annex

The short vacancy screen is an overview. The English and Maltese call documents contain the formal provisions; the duties annex explains the actual work where supplied. Save or bookmark the matching documents so you can return to them. The official portal states that the published Maltese version controls where interpretation conflicts.

Separate essential requirements from duties and desirable experience. A duties list helps you choose examples for an application or interview, while an eligibility clause establishes whether you can apply. If the role involves records, customer service, project coordination or technical support, choose real examples from your own experience that show relevant work. Do not claim skills just because they appear in the annex.

3. Tailor your CV with accurate evidence

Use a clear employment history with job titles, employers and dates. Describe your responsibilities and results in plain language. Instead of “excellent administration skills,” explain a genuine task: maintaining a record system, arranging a project schedule or resolving an invoice discrepancy. Use figures only when you can support them. Keep the most relevant examples easy to find.

List qualifications as they were awarded, including the institution and completion status. If the call refers to a recognised MQF level or a recognition statement, check its exact wording. Do not assign yourself an equivalent level without the required evidence. Where a qualification is still in progress, state that accurately and check whether the call allows that situation.

Our free CV builder can help organise your information. Review the output before uploading it to any application portal. Confirm your contact details, chronology and file readability. A well-presented CV supports your application; it does not replace mandatory documents or official form fields.

4. Assemble the documents the call requests

Make a checklist from the call's own instructions. Depending on the post, it may request qualification evidence, professional registration, recognition statements, employment information or other supporting records. Prepare only what is required and follow the official format and submission rules. Do not send identity records or certificates to an unofficial recruiter just because they appear to be helping with a public-service vacancy.

Check every scan at normal reading size. Verify that pages are complete, the text is legible and the document belongs to you. Use descriptive filenames such as “Qualification-Institution-Year” rather than “scan0003.” Keep an original copy separately, and upload through the official application route. Avoid password-protecting files unless the authority's instructions permit it.

5. Follow the exact official application route

Open the matching vacancy and use its Apply Now instructions. The official recruitment portal offers registration and login, and some education calls link to a separate official education recruitment portal. Follow the destination shown for that specific call rather than treating a general CV page as a universal application link.

The portal's How To Apply page directs applicants to Google Chrome and provides a recruitment manual. Use the current manual for account and submission steps. Enter your own details accurately and complete the required fields. This website does not submit applications or collect CVs for the Maltese government.

6. Check the deadline and submission confirmation

Record the closing date and time as published in Malta local time. If you are applying from the UAE or another country, compare the time zones for that particular date before planning your submission. Aim to finish early enough to deal with an unreadable file, a login problem or an incomplete field.

Before the final submission, check the post title and reference once more. Review all uploaded documents and any declaration you are asked to make. After submitting, keep the confirmation or application reference and check that it belongs to the correct call. Saving a draft or completing a CV profile may be different from submitting the vacancy application; follow the official portal's confirmation wording.

7. Keep a simple application tracker

A small tracker helps you avoid duplicated applications and missed follow-ups. For each call, record the title, reference, deadline, portal, submission date and confirmation number. Add a column for the next action, such as “clarify a qualification requirement” or “await official communication.” Our Save job feature creates a local browser shortlist, which is useful for comparison but is not an application record.

Recheck the vacancy source before responding to a message about the role. Verify the sender through official contact details and keep the original correspondence. Be cautious about promises of guaranteed selection or requests for payment to secure a government post. If something does not match the published call, ask the recruiting authority rather than relying on the promise.

Your final application checklist

  1. The title, ministry and call reference match the vacancy you want.
  2. You have read the complete eligibility conditions and duties.
  3. Your CV and evidence are accurate, legible and relevant.
  4. You are using the application portal linked by the official call.
  5. You have checked the Malta-local closing date and time.
  6. You know how to confirm submission and save its reference.
